Music and Movies – the Enhancing Affect of a Good Soundtrack

By: Erica DeCosta

Something I have noticed is that right after seeing a good movie or TV show, one thing that I usually will compliment first is the soundtrack. If a movie has a good soundtrack, it automatically gets a higher ranking, in my opinion. For example, some of my favorite movies include The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Love, Simon. Why? Because the music is so intricately placed in such a way it enhances the story that is being told. They both also have a great blend of popular, recognizable songs along with room for music discovery, which I personally love.

Music can have a great way of having that undeniable portrayal of feelings and emotions. It can help us tell when we should be sad or we should be happy, especially in film. Music has this special ability to evoke our thoughts and memories, thereby affecting our feelings and emotions. If placed strategically in a movie or TV show, music can enhance a certain scene or moment to an even greater extent and truly connect the audience to that specific mood that is trying to be portrayed.
