When Music Can Help

By: Erica DeCosta

Music has the magnificent power of being able to truly speak when words seem to fail. When times get tough, it can be impossible to find the right thing to say. Especially now (with the COVID-19 pandemic), the world is going through some difficult transitions that are be overwhelming and stressful. Moments such as these is where music has the ability to shine through all the darkness and uncertainty and give us a glimmer of hope.

Multiple studies have shown how much music can affect us in our emotions, health, and personal connections. Music has the ability to portray how we are feeling and reflect difficult situations. Playing, listening, writing, and really all forms music can bring a positive note into your life, by reducing stress and promoting healthy attitudes (good for social-emotional-behavioral!). Music is also able to connect us to one another. Listening to or performing music with others can create unspeakable bonds and a true and unmatched connection.

In rapidly changing times such as these, know that there is one constant, universal language between all of us; music. That is the beautiful importance of music.
